Artist Bio

Raised in the heart of Alabama, Elizabeth Gioia has always had an enormous passion for art. Throughout her youth, she dabbled in an array of media including: drawing, photography, and sculpture. While she always had an affinity for sculpture, she solidified this as her primary medium in the wake of a Sloss Furnace apprenticeship.

Eizabeth's artwork draws inspiration from abstraction and simplification. The primary subject matter of her art has to do with the ideas of balance and form and how they portray emotion in a a recognizable way.

Elizabeth received her education in the fine arts from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, with a minor business administration. While at U.A.B., Elizabeth sharpened her skill and technique. She experimented with various sculpture materials and styles, striving to understand the practice in order to find innovative ways to refine her art.

Elizabeth is not only classically trained but an award winning artist and active in the Birmingham community. Among the honors received by Elizabeth was her winning of first place in the Tour De Loo in Forest Park, for her collaborative installation. In addition to her participation in the Tour De Loo, Elizabeth is one of few who have been selected for a special commission which will be unveiled in 2019.
